One Foot in Front of the Other

I love Pinterest. It’s so much more than just another social media site. It’s a place to store little bits and pieces of your hopes and dreams. I believe that what you visualize and focus on is what you manifest. I also believe that your thoughts determine your future.

One of my favourite boards is my “Quote” board. There I save all of the inspiring words that resonate with my heart and that make me stop, breathe, and think.

Recently, I pinned a quote by Abraham Lincoln: “I walk slowly, but I never walk backward.” When I first read it, it literally stopped me dead in my tracks. “I walk slowly, but I never walk backward.” Such powerful words and so relevant to my journey.

Some days, things just flow and I can’t believe how easy things are and how far I’ve come in the last 2 years. Other days are such a struggle, and I wonder if I’m ever going to get to where I envision myself.

In a home — our home. With my partner who loves and cares for me, and who I love and care for in return. A space where everyone is welcome, and that is filled with good food, and warmth, and peacefulness, and laughter. A safe haven from the outside world that is sometimes way too harsh.

A place where we can be creative, he with his music and me with my writing (and baking and knitting and mala-making.) A place that maybe one day will have some kids in it that are also looking for a safe haven. A cat or a dog — we haven’t agreed on which one yet — and lots and lots of love.

I have a job that I am passionate about because it helps me to give back. I get to use my project management skills to really make a difference.

Right now, it all seems so far away and there are so many damn obstacles to overcome before I get there. Then I remember the words of Abraham Lincoln: “I walk slowly, but I never walk backward,” and I know that no matter how far away it seems, or how many obstacles there are, I will get there. It just may not be on my timeline, and that’s okay as long as I arrive.
